We cannot stress the importance of applying premium Caulking to your home and business for energy efficiency. Simply put, premium caulking inside and outside of your home will make a difference in helping keep your heat in and cold out during the Winters and vice versa in the Summers. In addition to savings on your energy costs,  Caulking seals out pests like our notorious Pittsburgh Stink Bugs, spiders, ants and other pests also find there way into cracks in caulking of your homes siding, windows, doors, trim and more. Maybe even more important than the proper use of the premium caulking is making sure the professional applying it has the proper knowledge of which caulking to use for the surface to adhere to it.

An additional major purpose of Caulking is to protect paint and surfaces from water retention. When you see paint peeling, cracking, chalking, it's because the caulking has broken down and water has invaded the surface. This can happen right away, we've seen paint as fresh as a couple weeks old bubble, crack and begin to peel from water. When caulking fails it's because of three reasons: 1) adhesive, 2) cohesive and 3) substrate. In other words, the bond between the caulk and the substrate fails, the caulk itself tears, or the substrate breaks. Problems with caulked joints are commonly due to a few reasons. The substrate was not properly prepared, or the wrong product was used.

Products on the market now have up to a 50 year warranty. Unfortunately, most building contractors use cheap, bulk caulking (and very little of it) when building your home. Then, once your home shifts, expands and contracts, your caulking cracks and splits leaving openings. Roman Paint Pros uses a scraper to remove the old sealant, depending on the age of the sealant it likely has lost all elasticity. We clean the surface with soapy water and apply the caulking.
